Is Xavier justified in killing Elijah? 150 words +- 10%?

            I do not think that Xavier is justified in killing Elijah. Although Elijah has become crazy, and possibly windigo, his attitude and friendship for Xavier has not changed. Throughout the war Elijah has been showing more signs of becoming windigo as he begins to love killing, then scalping, and then he wants Xavier to read the German bone. Although he has become crazy he has been doing many things to help out Xavier. When Grey Eyes told Breech about what Elijah and Xavier have been doing to take the heat off him, Elijah kills both of them because that was his only choice. If he did not kill them than Elijah and Xavier would have been killed or they would have been put in jail. Xavier thinks that what he did was wrong but it was all for good intentions. Xavier keeps a closed mind about Elijah’s actions through the war, and this blinds him that Elijah has not changed that much, and that he still sees him as his best friend.

         Throughout the novel Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, there have been many 

relations between the stories Niska tells Xavier, and the life Xavier led during the war. 

The most vivid connection between the two is in the chapters writing, feeding and the letter, where Niska tells a story of reading the animal bone to Xavier. This later connects to Xaviers life in the war because he is asked by Elijah to read the German bone. In writing, Niska wants to send a letter to Xavier. The letter isn’t translated well and the letter Xavier receives says that he must kill Elijah. The poor transition from the native language to English can be related to the assimilation of the Natives into the cruel war and the new lifestyle. The part where Xavier is told to kill Elijah could represent the continuous separation between the two characters.
